About Us

Mitchell Dance Systems is owned and operated by Robert and Billie Mitchell of Greenville, South Carolina.  Originally from Dallas, Texas, the couple has been in business together for the past 15 years.  They travel throughout the Southeastern United States, Robert as a Ballroom judge and coach, Billie as in independent distributor of dance apparel.  Their success comes from their shared love for dance and each other.

Billie discovered dance at an early age, first through her mother’s interest and then through the sheer joy of learning.  As a child she took dance lessons in ballet, tap, jazz, and expression.  She has been dancing Ballroom for 15 years.  After winning numerous awards at various Ballroom competitions, Billie began assisting Robert as his partner in classes and exhibitions.  Today, Billie travels to Ballroom dance competitions and studios throughout the southeastern United States as an independent consultant and distributor of Ballroom dance apparel, including shoes, gowns, jewelry, and other dance accessories for both practice and competition wear. About dancing, Billie says that what she enjoys most is “moving to music with a partner that makes it easy for me to feel free to dance smoothly and comfortably without any worries.”

 What Robert loves most about dance is sensing “the pleasure of the body’s coordination and control and sharing it with a partner.”  Before branching off to work independently, Robert served as the Regional Dance Board Chairman for Arthur Murray Studios, the Regional Dance Director of the Fred Astaire Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and as the Regional Dance Board Chairman for over five states at the Fred Astaire Studios in Texas.  He now travels throughout the Southeast, and to other locations throughout the United States, organizing showcases, judging competitions, coaching, and preparing amateurs and professionals alike for degrees in Ballroom dance.  He is an NDCA Adjudicator holding Dual Fellowship Degrees with the ISTD in both Standard and Latin.  He is also a fellow and examiner for the NADTA in American, International, and Theatrical styles of dancing.
